Stories From Ancient Times To Tour The Cotswolds
Summer activities for young people across the Cotswolds will take inspiration from the beautiful Orpheus mosaic uncovered during the Barton Farm excavations near Cirencester.
The mosaic, now housed in the Corinium Museum, depicts the Greek / Roman legend Orpheus charming a myriad of wild animals with his magical lyre, a gift given to him from his father, the god Apollo.
The legend of Orpheus tells of his adventures into the underworld in an attempt to rescue his wife Eurydice, and you can hear the tale for yourself with the Corinium Museum’s Outreach officer Emma Stuart. After hearing the story, children will have an opportunity to make their own wild animal or mythical beast from clay.
The story telling and craft sessions link into the Gloucestershire Library services theme of music for the National Year of Reading 2008 celebrations. The events will take place at five different libraries across the Cotswolds.
