KEEP WARM IN WINTER WITH ADVICE AT MORETON

17th December 2007

How to keep warm in the height of winter will be the advice on offer – along with a free energy-saving light-bulb - at the Moreton Area Centre next month.

Cotswold District Council staff at the High Street office will welcome Gloucestershire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre advisers on January 15th, who will offer free and impartial advice on a range of heating and energy efficiency issues.

They will discuss the best ways to keep your house warm – which include using loft and wall insulation – and how to save money on your fuel bills. They will also offer advice on how to stay warm while still caring for the environment.

Energy advisers will be at the Moreton Area Centre from 10am till 2pm. There will be information, thermometer cards and the opportunity to find out about the available schemes to help with home insulation and heating systems. Refreshments will be available and a free energy-saving light bulb will be given to each homeowner that comes to the session.

If you are unable to come to the Moreton Area Centre, you can contact an energy adviser at the Gloucestershire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre on FREEPHONE 0800 512 012 or email: eeac@swea.co.uk.

Does Moreton in Marsh have links with The Lord of The Rings?

A pub in Moreton-in-Marsh has been presented with a special print by a branch of the J R R Tolkein Society.

After painstaking research the Society claim that The Bell Inn in Moreton in Marsh is the inspiration behind The Prancing Pony, Middle Earth's most famous pub. So will Keith Pendry, the leaseholder of The Bell Inn, be taking full advantage of his pub''s historic influence in the hope that hobbit-esque types will be beating a path to his door in order to drink a pint in the closet thing they will get to the fictional pub? We expect so!

The Society believes the similarities between the The Bell Inn in Moreton in Marsh and The Prancing Pony in Tolkein's town of Bree is irrefutable evidence Tolkien used the pub as inspiration. These similarities include the three storeys of the pub building and its entrance via a courtyard, and the similarities of Moreton in Marsh to the town of Bree, where the hobbits find the Prancing Pony on a cold, rainy night.

So will Keith now be known locally as Barliman Butterbur, only time will tell.
