Tetbury

Tetbury

Tetbury is a town steeped in history and can be found in one of the most beautiful parts of the Cotswolds, approximately 12 miles from Cirencester.

Through the middle-ages Tetbury's market grew in reputation as a centre for the best in Cotswold wool & yarn

The wool sack race, which is still run annually, is believed to have been born during Tetbury's early trade in wool. The race is run up a 1 in 4 hill and has been given world record status.

Essentially a sleepy Cotswold town, Tetbury is perhaps closer to its origins that other Cotswold places and wonderful arcitecture can be found wherever you look.

The Priory Inn’s 2006 success is repeated in 2007 with yet another Taste of The West award!
29th October 2007

The Priory Inn, Tetbury, the family friendly gastro-inn in the heart of the Cotswolds, has been honoured by Taste of The West for the second year running, again receiving a Silver Award for “Dining Pub” in their 2007 Food and Drink Awards.

Since launching in 2005, The Priory Inn has managed to chalk up five industry awards including: a Harden’s 2006 Restaurant Rémy award; “Most Distinctive Local Menu” from The Cotswold Life Food and Drink Awards 2006 and 2007; and, now for the second year running it has added another Taste of the West Silver Dining Pub of the Year Award to its collection. This most recent award is further proof of the establishment’s commitment to providing a consistent and high quality pub dining experience.

Now in its fourteenth year, the Taste of the West Food and Drink Awards recognise the finest in food, drink, hospitality and food retail in the South West of England. The awards are highly respected throughout the industry and in an anonymous review, the expert judges (made up of chefs, restaurateurs, trade buyers and technical specialists) evaluate the quality of meals, ambience, evidence of local sourcing and knowledge of staff.

Dave Kelly, who is Director and co-owner of The Priory Inn, Tetbury, along with his wife Tanya says: “We are really delighted to have again been awarded a Silver Dining Pub Award by Taste of The West. This beautiful part of the country is fabulously wealthy in terms of its food and drink and we are very proud to be judged again as one of the best establishments in the county. Our aim at The Priory Inn is to provide a healthy, enjoyable experience for the whole family which provides good value for money, at the same time as playing an integral part in our local economy.

Our house-rule at The Priory Inn is to buy meat, fresh produce, dairy products and as many drinks as possible from local sources - about 75-80% of the ingredients for our seasonal menus are sourced from a 40 mile radius. This means that our customers enjoy the health benefits of eating fresh local food in the knowledge that they are supporting the rural economy and at the same time benefiting the environment. Tanya and I personally benefit from striking up new relationships with dedicated and passionate people who are devoted to developing and refining their products, rearing their animals and growing their produce (often against all odds as this summer has shown). We love what we do and are thrilled that this is recognised by our customers and the industry”

The Priory Inn - whose busy gastro-inn, bedrooms and coffee bar were completely refurbished in 2004 – is at the heart of Tetbury life. Its aim is to be the best value place to “eat, drink and sleep” in the Cotswolds, and its roots lie firmly in producing exciting modern rustic cuisine using the best seasonal produce the Cotswolds has to offer, cooked expertly – but simply – and not costing the earth!

The gastro-inn has also gained a reputation for its live acoustic music on chilled out Sunday nights and gourmet pizzas from the wood-fired oven. The restaurant is welcoming to all members of the family – whatever their age – with a special kids’ menu and highchairs, but monitors work from bedrooms to restaurants, so parents staying at the hotel can relax and really enjoy their evenings.

The management team behind The Priory Inn boasts years of hospitality experience between them, working in and launching high profile hotel and restaurant establishments in New York, London and Hertfordshire.

The Priory Inn is situated in Tetbury, a beautiful market town in the heart of the Cotswolds which is one of the most important antiques centres in the UK. It is 2 miles from the Royal home of Highgrove. The hotel has 14 ensuite contemporary bedrooms.

The Priory Inn, Tetbury, wins another food and drink award

An ‘Oscar’ for the Cotswold gastro-inn as the public vote again…

For the second year running, The Priory Inn, Tetbury - the family friendly gastro-inn in the heart of the Cotswolds - has received the prestigious Cotswold Life Food and Drink Award for “Most Distinctive Local Menu” voted for by the restaurant-going public.

For the second year running and after receiving a trio of awards in 2006, the gastro-inn’s culinary achievements have again been publicly recognised at a local level at an annual celebration known in The Cotswolds as ‘the Oscars of the food and drink scene’!

The Cotswold Life Food and Drink Awards, which were announced on Friday evening at the Beaufort Polo Club, are given to those organisations which have received the most nominations from the general public and then judged by an independent panel. They are in their fifth year and were set up to
honour the best suppliers, sellers and producers of the finest local food and drink the Cotswolds and Gloucestershire has to offer.

Dave Kelly, who is Director and co-owner of The Priory Inn, Tetbury, along with his wife Tanya says: “Since we first won this award last year, we have struck up some new and very exciting relationships with local suppliers and producers, boosting our menus and adding interest to the choice of local
beer, wine and other drinks at the bar. Our dream was always to offer excellent local, seasonal (and affordable) food and drink in the right environment to draw people from miles around.

We are very proud and enthusiastic about the origin of our menu’s items, and we feel it is obvious that we should share this information with our customers. On each table, we tell a “story” about exactly where the food they are eating comes from: the flour traditionally milled less than a mile
away which forms the delicious base to our gourmet pizzas and home-baked bread; the happy ducks grazing their pastures at Madgett’s Farm; the farmers adding value to milk by making excellent local cheeses; the eighteen year old who churns ice-cream from the milk of her father’s cows; and Esther –
the craftswoman who produces country liqueurs from fruit found on brambles in the Cotswolds, to mention a few! We are thrilled that our efforts to pull these products together and integrate them into our mouth-watering menus has been recognised by our customers and the discerning Cotswold Life
judges.”
