A day in Painswick

You are here: Home > Cotswold Blog > A day in Painswick

I have to say, from the moment I stepped foot into the small town of Painswick I was taken back by how beautiful it was. It was a Sunday so extremely quiet (however I doubt it is ever extremely busy) and so it was perfect for exploring and taking wonderful photos.

My Name is Ellie and I'm a registered midwife currently working in Wales. Although I love my job I have always wanted my own company, that's why very recently I took the leap of launching Tyler Aromatherapy - I make essential oil soy candles that are vegan and cruelty free using all natural products, they are Handpoured in the Wye Valley.

A day in beautiful Painswick really inspired me.

St Mary's Church, Painswick

I firstly wondered slowly to the famous St Mary's Church, this lies in the heart of the village. This gothic wool church is surrounded by passage ways and - so I've read - 99 yew trees! It was almost like walking through a scene from Alice in wonderland with its stunning topiary displays. I believe these trees have been around for a thousands years now. My favourite thing was the little Tudor style building that's situated next to the church.

Exploring the streets of Painswick

I then explored the streets of Painswick. With its warm stone buildings and climber clad cottages, the beauty of this town is vast. Although there are not masses of shops, it didn't matter as I enjoyed my slow stroll through the town.

What amazed me was the almost uniform nature of it, each house was stunning, not one out of place. There are a number of notable historic buildings, two of them even had original 'donkey doors', these date back to the 14th century!

Painswick Rococo Gardens

I had already planned to visit Rococco Gardens, and it did not disappoint. This 18th century garden has been restored to its former glory. Nestled in a valley with views of the countryside, the garden mixes traditional flower displays with striking garden sculptures. I was given a map on arrival to find my way around this extensive garden. My favourite area aside from the bluebells had to be the little red house, inside was a selection of vintage books to buy. I really enjoyed my visit.

An inspiring visit to the Cotswolds

As a new business owner I am always looking for things to inspire and drive my creative mind, hence the trip to Painswick. Although there are many beautiful places to visit in the Cotswolds, I decided to visit painswick from a little blog I read on the 10 prettiest villages in Britain.

My visit to beautiful Painswick really inspired me. I created a summer scent blend of Clary Sage, Rose Geranium and Frankincense. The perfect balance of pretty floral, herby and earthy! Whenever I smell this candle I am taken back to the stunning streets of Painswick.

Lots of love, Ellie
