When I moved to the Cotswolds in 2018, it was a move primarily to get my daughter into a secondary school with a great reputation. It wasn't until I moved in and started to explore that I realised just how lucky I actually am. I have the most amazing countryside on my doorstep and one of the walks I particularly enjoy is on the old Fosse Way.
The Fosse Way
The Fosse Way is a Roman road running from Lincoln to Leicester, passing through Cirencester. Road building was one of the main legacies of the Romans, paving routes so troops and supplies could connect to forts, ports, and other key points. Courtiers, merchants, and trade would follow to service the growing settlements along the way.
The name Fosse derives from the Latin "fossa" meaning "ditch"; suggesting that the Way followed a one-time defensive ditch running along the western border of Roman-controlled England.
Off the beaten Fosse Way track
The Fosse Way enters the Cotswolds in Cirencester (A433/A429) and the Roman roads of Ermin Street (A417/A419) making Cirencester the prosperous medieval market town it is today. There are many features to visit that are laid out in traditional Roman style to include; the Roman amphitheatre and Roman walls in the Abbey grounds however, my preference is to meander down the tree lined by-ways from Kemble airfield, taking in the beautiful surroundings, wildflowers and plants and making way for the occasional horse and rider. I cross over Tetbury Land and carry on the way, meeting numerous cyclists, making my way to a lovely little fjord where the water is gurgling and clear as crystal.
Missaroma
I can safely say that living in the Cotswolds and walking down this historic path has led me to my new business venture.
Misasroma was born in 2020 during the pandemic. Michaela and I decided to make the leap into the world of essential oils and candle making. We have always been very health conscious and wanted our brand to offer a beautifully fragranced, yet natural and clean product. We started blending our candles and swapping ideas on each other's driveways due to all the covid restrictions; blending, smelling, and testing. By July we had developed 3 candle blends and felt we were ready to take on the Corn Hall Indoor Market in Cirencester, so off we went with our wares.
Where are we now!
Fast forward to July 2021, we now have 9 candle blends, Reed Diffusers, Essential Oil Hand Sanitiser, Room Sprays and Essential oil blends, successfully building a loyal customer base whilst also establishing lovely relationships with local businesses that have opened their arms to the Missaroma ladies!
Michaela and I are profoundly grateful that during an awful year for everyone last year we have been able to make what we thought was always a dream, a reality.

Without the peaceful walks along the Fosse Way, helping me to visualise what I wanted and offering me the time to reflect, who knows if Missaroma would have just stayed a dream.
