Rocco the Rock Star's mega adventure in Marshfield

Marshfield Market Town

Marshfield is a small market town at the southern end of the Cotswolds, consisting of an historic high street lined with 17th and 18th century buildings.

St Mary the Virgin Church, Marshfield

St Mary the Virgin Church is a picturesque church with stunning views and we were delighted to see the Church gardens were very wildlife friendly with bird and bat boxes.

There are a few benches scattered here and there to perch and take in the peaceful places to enjoy the stunning views.

The Church outside is as beautiful inside and you are made to feel very welcome and this church has been a place of worship for over 500 years.

The church was also used for filming the Doctor Who Christmas Special, which Rocco missed out on as he was busy writing his Christmas novel at the time.

Sweetapples Tea Shop

Before we embarked on our walk we all decided we would grab a snack to build up our energy. So we stopped off at the Sweetapples Tea Shop, and we were impressed with the friendly staff and the wonderful menu. We settled for coffee, toast and some milky water for the pack, and a comfort break at the public Tolzey Hall Convenience before we commenced.

In the town there is also 'The Lord Nelson Inn' and 'The Catherine Wheel' both are typical pubs to be found in a Cotswold market town, they both offer a wide menu and also offer accommodation for those that come from far and wide. Both establishments are closed due to Covid at present however they are both providing a take away service.

A particular favourite of Rachel's in the High Street is 'Country Stores' that sells items such as antique furnitures and all sorts of unusual curiosity items. large range of items for sale ranging from contemporary pieces, many by local artists, to antique.

Marshfield Circular Walk

There is a seven mile river and woodland walk starting in Marshfield, This lovely circular 7 mile walk is defiantly worth it. From the Marshfield town centre you follow the public footpath that will take you to Down Road, this is a pleasant country road that will eventually lead to West Kington, a delightful little hamlet with gorgeous postcard picture cottages and sweet gardens.

Keep going along the footpath and you will find yourself walking along the Broadmead Brook, which the pack absolutely adore as the smells fill their senses and the views of the valleys and pretty wildflowers are just amazing. (please keep your dogs on leads as we have come across sheep grazing and pheasants running around).

To take you back to the town the route will turn south along Shire Hill lane where you can discover more country paths back to the town.

As you know by now if you have been following our pack of misfits, we have four fabulous four legged companions ranging from the age of 2 years old to 12 years old, so sometimes we have to comprise the walks to allow for different fitness levels and abilities of the pack. On this particular walk we took the car to Broadmead Brook and we all enjoyed the walk along the path way and appreciated the clear waters of the Brook and the wildlife.

Marshfield Dairy Farm

Marshfield Dairy Farm is only a 8 mins drive from Marshfield and comprises of 1,100 acres of land on which the farm grows crops and rear dairy cows.

Our adventure to Marshfield would not be complete with out visiting the Marshfield Dairy Farm as we all love ice-cream in our gang.

Marshfield Farm produces the most awesome ice-cream, with over 30 different flavours to choose from and when the farm is in full swing 2,500 litres of ice-cream can be made in the hour that's enough apparently to fill 31 bath tubs.

As you can see Jasper and Rocco love Marshfield ice-cream so much they didn't mind sharing and their Doggy Marshfield Ice Cream treat.
