Many towns and villages in the Cotswolds have nicknames. One such nickname is "the gateway to the Cotswolds".

Burford - The Gateway to the Cotswolds

The Oxfordshire town of Burford is known as "the gateway to the Cotswolds".

Burford is a popular destination for tourists and sightseers who are visiting the Cotswolds. Visitors come from all over the world to visit this charming Cotswold town with its beautiful Cotswold Stone buildings.

Burford is located on the edge of the Cotswolds, just off the A40, almost equidistant between Oxford and Cheltenham. Visitors on a whistle-stop trip to the Cotswolds often combine visiting Burford with Bibury and Bourton on the Water due to their close proximity (a total driving distance of about 35 miles).
