Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the Cotswolds
Charles Paget Wade (1883-1956) was an English architect, artist-craftsman, and poet. He is best known for the eclectic collection he amassed during his life, which can be seen at Snowshill Manor, his former home in the village of Snowshill, Gloucestershire, which he gave to the National Trust in 1951.
In 1919, Wade bought Snowshill Manor, a dilapidated manor house in Gloucestershire. He spent the rest of his life carefully restoring the manor and filling it with antiques, art, and crafts from around the world.
Wade's collection is eclectic and wide-ranging. It includes everything from Japanese lacquerware to English folk art to musical instruments from all over the world. Wade also collected a large number of books, including many rare and valuable volumes.
Wade died on June 28, 1956, at the age of 73. He is buried in the churchyard at Snowshill.
Wade's legacy can be seen in the collection he left at Snowshill Manor. The manor is now a popular National Trust property, and it is a testament to Wade's eclectic taste and his passion for collecting.
