Castle Combe has been used frequently as a filming location, featuring in films such as War Horse (2011), The Wolfman (2010) and Stardust (2007). It also have appeared in the original Dr Doolittle film (1967).

The village is over-flowing with buildings and houses constructed using the honey coloured Cotswold stone, typical for a village of this area, and features on the Instagram grids of every visitor to the Cotswolds it seems!

The Grade II listed bridge that crosses 'By Brook' river is a favourite of selfie-lovers from all over the world.

One of the best things about Castle Combe village is that it can transport you back in time. You can easily imagine the roads being occupied by travellers using their horse and cart as they go about their daily business. But on a busy day Castle Combe is one of the most popular places to visit in the Cotswolds.

Within Castle Combe village you'll find a Market Cross (a scheduled monument) and the 13th century St Andrew's Parish Church that houses a faceless clock - reputed to be one of the oldest working clocks in the country.

You'll also find a couple of pubs (The Castle Inn and The White Hart), and The Manor House Hotel where can stay in one of the 50 bedrooms in the stunning 14th century mansion itself, or in a row of picturesque mews cottages within the 365 acres of grounds.

There's even a Peter Allis designed 18 hole Championship golf course adjacent to the hotel where residents can take advantage of reduced green fee rates.

For those in the area for more than the whistle-stop visit commonly chosen by people trying to cram in as many sights as they can in one day, there are some lovely circular walking routes from the village following ancient paths and lanes through pretty Cotswold villages, and stunning landscapes. It's definately worth visiting Castle Combe if you are planning a visit to the Cotswolds.
